School History
Kalaafaanu School was built with the aid of the Government of Japan. The Foundation Stone was laid on 16th February 1988.
The construction was completed, and the school was formally opened on the 25th of July 1989 by the former President, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.
The school was named after Al Sultan Ibrahim (The third) Siree Sudhdha Mahaa Radhun. He was popularly known as Sultan Kalaafaanu who succeeded to the throne after the demise of his father, one of Maldives valiant heroes, Mohamed Thakurufaanu.
The first Principal of the school was Mr. Mohamed Rasheed who served the school for 10 years.
Kalaafaanu, twenty-three years from its inception, the ever-majestic structure stands as a proud symbol of the Maldivian government’s commitment to primary education and as a silent testimony to the generosity of the people of Japan.
